Rich in heritage, bonded in love, growing in Christ.

Pastor Office Hours:

Pastor Sue has open door office hours every Thursday. She leads morning prayer from her office beginning at 9:00 a.m. which is streamed live on the church’s Facebook page. Pastor Sue  will remain in her office until 1:00 p.m. and, as always, drop-ins for a cup of coffee or tea are welcome. She is also available at other times by appointment; please call (716) 983-5760 to make arrangements.

I am the Reverend Susan (Sue) Walters, and I’m writing this new bio as the officially called pastor of the East Bloomfield Congregational Church, a position I am humbled to accept. When I first came to this church, I had retired as a United Methodist pastor after more than 30 years of service. The call I received to be the interim pastor was surprising; I had pretty much thought €that my service to God would be lived out in other areas. I was wrong; God still wanted me in the pulpit.

I did not realize how much I missed ordained ministry until I stepped back into this role. The preaching, the leading of worship, the celebration of the sacraments, the pastoral care, the teaching of Bible studies brings me great joy. I am delighted to be the permanent pastor of the church.

My biographical information has also changed. I am still married to Joe Walters, of Call Joe fame. We will celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary the end of June. I am now the grandmother of 13, ranging in age from 2 to 25. I am also a great-grandmother to a 1 year old. God continues to provide the joy of being a grandparent. Six of these are local, so Joe and I get to spend time with them frequently. The others are out of town, including my two biological daughters, and their three sons, who are in Kansas and Iowa. I try to get out there to see them as much as possible.

My vision for the church is that we continue to worship and serve God in whatever ways God calls us to do that. I know there are some who lament the small size and advancing age of our congregation. My response to that is that God can use everyone for God’s purposes. One of the most recent purposes God has for us is to be one of the emergency evacuation centers for Bloomfield schools. We all hate to think of the reasons the schools would have to be evacuated, but the church is always here to serve the needs of the community, and this is, unfortunately, a pressing need. We are happy to provide a safe space for our children and teachers.

We are moving forward, as we listen to and follow God’s direction. Thanks be to God.

Blessings,

Sue
